Job Description

Tyson Foods is seeking a Field Swine Veterinarian to lead animal health efforts across its wean-to-market operations in the Midwest. This vital field-based role supports the overall wellbeing of swine herds by overseeing health protocols, conducting on-site farm evaluations, and coordinating with both producers and the internal Technical Services team.

The veterinarian will serve as a technical expert, advising on disease prevention, health-related SOPs, and biosecurity strategy. You'll work hands-on with producers and farm personnel in Indiana and Ohio, guiding effective animal health practices, providing training, and resolving complex farm-level health challenges.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary health advisor for swine operations across assigned territories (Indiana & Ohio).
  • Visit swine production facilities regularly to assess health, implement protocols, and resolve emerging issues.
  • Collaborate with Technical Services, Production Management, and on-site staff to develop and refine health strategies.
  • Lead efforts in biosecurity, vaccination protocols, animal welfare compliance, and emergency response planning.
  • Conduct on-farm training for team members on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to animal health.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of swine disease trends, regulatory requirements, and new treatment protocols.
  • Coordinate with 3rd-party labs, suppliers, and specialists to support animal health diagnostics and solutions.
  • Ensure biosecurity procedures are strictly followed at all visited sites (including shower-in/shower-out policies).

Candidate Profile

  • Education: Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine with ability to practice Veterinary Medicine in the United States. 
  • Experience: Three years plus related experience. Time in veterinary college counts towards experience. 
  • Computer Skills: Standard computer skills; may require use of the Tyson Business Computer System. 
  • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Special Skills: Requires licensure or willingness to obtain licensure in Indiana and Ohio and potentially other Midwest states; a thorough understanding of diseases and disorders detrimental to the welfare of swine.
